Improving Transportation Focus Of Meeting
DETROIT (WWJ) - Improving Detroit's transportation system is the focus of a meeting Monday between U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and local leaders.
LaHood will speak with the governor, the mayor of Detroit and county executives on ways to improve Detroit's transportation network and bring new opportunities for economic development.
The opportunities for immediate improvement have been documented in recent weeks, with broken down city buses keeping Detroiters from getting to work and school on time, and recent announcements of major cutbacks in the works for the SMART regional buses system that will leave riders with fewer options.
