Imam Who Worked In Mich. Arrested For Sexual Assault

DETROIT (WWJ) - An Imam who once worked in Michigan is under arrest in Toronto on 13 counts of sexual assault.

Toronto police detective Karen Armstrong said 48-year-old Mohammad Masroor worked and lived all over the world.

"He has either lived or worked in Bangladesh, France, Germany, Hungary, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and most recently he resided in Florida and Michigan in the United States."

Armstrong said Masroor had been in Canada since 2008, teaching the Quran to students at an Islamic center and in private homes in Toronto. Because his travels had taken him all over the world, police believe there may be more victims they are unaware of.

"Currently, our investigation revolves around five victims who are both male and female. We have been in touch with other victims and the investigation is expressing."

The 13 charges are in relation to alleged offences that took place between November 1, 2008 and July 28, 2011.

It is not clear where in Michigan Masroor worked. Police suspect there might be more victims in other countries.
