Hungry In The D? These Guys Deliver

DETROIT (WWJ) - Four years ago Shane O'Keefe and a group of friends were looking for a way to make a few dollars outside of a traditional job. Hot Spokes was born.

Hot Spokes now delivers meals to residents and business people all over Detroit --  on four wheels.

"We'll deliver lunch from eight New Center restaurants anywhere between Boulevard, Jefferson, Rosa Parks and Brush for $3," O'Keefe said.

The group makes about 10 deliveries a day from city hotspots to offices, apartments and hospital staff,  but there are often multiple orders in one delivery.

O'Keefe said it's sometimes a challenge to balance several meals inside his thermal bike box and his hands, but he does it. O'Keefe said they'll deliver in any weather -- even deep snow.

The last time they could not make a delivery was more than two winters ago during a major snow storm.

O'Keefe said he does not own a car and he's glad he doesn't have to pay for gas while trying to run a delivery business.

Delivery areas include: New Center, Woodbridge, Cass Corridor, Downtown and the Medical Center.  Hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.  (Get more information at this link).
