Honda Recalls 46,000 Vans To Fix Rear Doors

DETROIT (WWJ) - Honda is recalling nearly 46,000 Odyssey minivans because the rear doors can fall on people unexpectedly, and have on at least two occasions.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall effects the 2008 and 2009 model year Odyssey.

NHTSA said a manufacturing flaw in the gas-filled struts that help raise and support the liftgate can result in a leak of the pressurized gas, leading to reduced strut performance. Struts with diminished performance can lead to unexpected closure of the liftgate, increasing the risk of injuries.

Honda said two of the seven complaints reported injuries due to consumers being struck by the closing liftgate.

Honda will send letters to van owners next month with instructions about the recall. The company said it will replace both power liftgate struts, free of charge.

Owners with questions can contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009 or visit honda.com.
