Homeowner Kills Intruder; 2nd Suspect Runs For His Life
DETROIT (WWJ) - A west-side Detroit homeowner took aim at thieves in a neighborhood around Lamphere and Barbara in the I-96 and W. Outer Drive area.
A couple of thieves tried to break into a home on the corner there, startling those who live in the house. They woke up and the man of the house grabbed a gun and took aim at one of the thieves. He was shot; the other one crashed through the home's front picture window and took off running down the street, leaving a trail of blood. Police have him in custody.
"We looked out and we heard this noise -- crash," neighbor Lennette Lowman told WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas. "And then, next thing I know ... I didn't know if it was (a) car or what was going on. The next thing I know, the police ... was everywhere."
Lowman said the female homeowner was accidentally shot in the shoulder during the ruckus by her husband and taken to a local hospital.
The male homeowner, who was being escorted away from the home by police, told Thomas it was a "rough" morning. His wife is expected to survive her injury.
