High School Coach Kills 1, Injures Another In Suspected Robbery
DETROIT (WWJ) - An attempted robbery outside a west side Detroit high school has tragic consequences Friday night.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. as the girl's basketball coach from Martin Luther King Jr. High School was walking two of his players to their cars.
Two teenagers allegedly approached the coach, and one pulled out a gun and grabbed him by his chain necklace. The coach, who is also a reserve officer for the Detroit Police Department, then pulled out his gun and shot both of the suspected robbers.
One of the suspects was found dead a short distance from the scene. The other was taken to the hospital.
Reports say the suspect who was fatally shot was a former MLK student who had been expelled from the school.
The coach reportedly has a concealed pistol license and is fully cooperating with police.
