H.S. Students Looking For College Encouragement
What do real life high school students say about the road to college? The Center for Youth Voice did a study of young people in Tennessee and Seattle in which young people asked one another about the journey to college. While students reported that they were encouraged to attend college in grades 3 through 9, in high school, there was less encouragement, and little concrete advice on how to get to college. About a third of students reported never talking to a guidance counselor about college. This means that encouragement, and direct help in the college search and applications fall mostly on parents, and other adults in teens' lives.
