Gov't: No Public Deals With Companies Tied To Iran

LANSING (AP) - People or companies with ties to Iran won't be doing business with any arm of government in Michigan.

Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law last week called the Iran Economic Sanctions Act. It requires anyone bidding on a public contract to certify that it has no deals in Iran. A violation could bring a six-figure fine.

The bill was sponsored by Sen. Roger Kahn, a Republican from Saginaw. It passed unanimously in the Senate but drew "no" votes from two Democrats in the House, Jeff Irwin of Ann Arbor and Mark Meadows of East Lansing.

The federal government prohibits nearly all trade with Iran because of links to terrorism and its nuclear program.
