Governor Snyder Visits Auto Show Tuesday

Rick Snyder visited the North American International Auto Show Tuesday for the first time as governor.

Before taking a quick tour of the show floor, Snyder applauded those who helped make the event a reality. Synder is calling the role of the automotive industry and manufacturing critical to Michigan's future.

He says he's not going to walk away from something that's made the state great. But, he also adds that we need to expand our focus, on green technology, for example.

"I admire green technology. This is just incredible. But, we want to encourage all forms of innovation. And, one of the highlights -- one of the areas that we're strong in, is these technology areas of solar, you can see what the university is doing ... we have a large company and great innovation going on with Dow," the governor said.

Snyder and Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley met with Michigan Economic Development Corp. President and CEO Michael Finney, as well as with representatives of Michigan companies.

Press previews for the Auto Show are going on this week. The show opens to the public Saturday and runs through Jan. 23.
