Gas Main Break-Canton Twp.

A gas main break in Canton Township has closed several roads in the area. Construction crews working on Canton Center Road, Tuesday,  hit a 4-inch gas main, releasing nearly 60 pounds of pressure.

WWJ's Pat Sweeting spoke with Canton Township Fire Chief Mike Rorabacher.  "We haven't determined the cause, sometimes there are undocumented lines, sometimes it's worker error, and we have not determined the cause at this time," Rorabacker said.

There was no need for evacuation in the area. DTE crews are working to cap the leak.

"We've got a pretty good breeze today, the gas has dissipated almost as fast as it escaped. We did have personnel with gas monitors in the subdivision across the street and they didn't recieve any unusual readings at all,"  said Chief Rorabacher.
