Funeral For A. Alfred Taubman Tuesday In Southfield

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) - A funeral will be held Tuesday at a synagogue in suburban Detroit for billionaire philanthropist and shopping mall pioneer A. Alfred Taubman.

The 91-year-old Taubman died Friday of a heart attack at his home in Bloomfield Hills.

The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in the Detroit suburb of Southfield. The Ira Kaufman Chapel says that Taubman will be buried in a private ceremony at Clover Hill Park cemetery in Birmingham.

Taubman donated hundreds of millions of dollars to universities, hospitals and museums. He began his first real estate business in 1950 and pioneered the development of enclosed shopping malls in Michigan, California and elsewhere in the 1950s and early 1960s.
