Free Admission Draws Crowd To DIA
DETROIT (WWJ) - Following passage of the 10 year Detroit Institute of Arts millage on Aug. 7, museum employees have noted an increase in foot traffic.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting spoke with DIA staffer Eugene Strobe during a free finger-puppet workshop that attracted a fair amount of attention.
"It's not just for kids, it's for kids of all ages," said Strobe. "Anyone who can walk in the door can do art and we encourage that. So these workshops are intended for anybody ... it's an open, drop-in workshop."
Strobe said going to the DIA is a great way to celebrate what Detroit has to offer in the arts.
Since the passage of the new millage, DIA admission is now free for residents of Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties with ID.
People are advised to check the DIA website for information on exhibits and drop-in workshops which periodically change.
