Fire That Killed UP Man In Truck Seems Accidental

BREITUNG TWP. (AP) - Authorities have determined that a weekend fire that killed an Upper Peninsula man who had fallen asleep in a truck appears to be accidental.

WLUC-TV reports that the fire may have started in the truck's engine compartment or undercarriage in Dickinson County's Breitung Township.

The name of the 34-year-old Kingsford man wasn't released.

Three men were in the truck when it got stuck on a tree stump. One of the men decided to sleep in the vehicle, while another man went to his home.

The third man slept near a fire pit and told police he woke up about 6 a.m. Saturday and saw flames in a field. He sought help from a nearby house. The dead man later was found burned in the truck.
