Fermi 2 Nuclear Plant Back Online After Water Leak Fixed

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - DTE Energy Co. says the Fermi 2 nuclear power plant is running again after a more than two-week shutdown.

The Monroe News reports Monday that repairs were made to fix a water leak that was detected within the dry well that encloses its reactor. Crews were shutting down the plant when the monitoring system took over and automatically did so as a safety measure on March 19.

The plant was back at about 25 percent power on Saturday and full power by Monday morning.

The last unplanned shut down was about a year ago.

The plant is along Lake Erie in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township.

Fermi 2 first went online in 1988.
