Ex-Con Faces 70 Years Prison For Murder Of Southgate Mother, Son
SOUTHGATE (WWJ/AP) - An ex-convict who was living with a woman and her son in their Downriver apartment has pleaded guilty to killing them.
Prosecutors say Antoine Beck, 33, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree murder. The deal calls for 45-70 years in prison when he is sentenced Feb. 24.
The bodies of 28-year-old Courtney Durr and her 10-year-old son Sumari Das were found in June at La Colonnade Apartments, near Northline and Dix roads in Southgate. According to The News Herald, Durr was found strangled in the living room, with her hands bound and her throat slit, while her son was found strangled in a back bedroom.
Beck was accused of killing the pair and fleeing in Durr's car. Police say he confessed to the crimes and expressed no remorse after the deaths.
Beck's criminal record includes armed robbery and a decade in prison. Shortly after his release, police say he began a relationship with Durr. The killings happened just months later.
Beck was initially charged with two counts of first-degree murder, larceny and unlawful driving away of an automobile.
