Ex-Con Enters Guilty Plea In Shooting Death Of Michigan State Student
EAST LANSING (AP) - A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed robbery in the slaying of a Michigan State University student at his off-campus apartment.
Marquay McCoy entered the plea Friday in Ingham County Circuit Court. He faces between 32 years and life in prison at his April 8 sentencing.
Police say McCoy shot Dominique Nolff, a 20-year-old MSU sophomore, on Jan. 31 at the off-campus Cedar Village Apartments in East Lansing while trying to steal medical marijuana and a laptop.
McCoy told Circuit Judge Clinton Canady III that he went to the apartment "to rob the victim, pulled a gun out and got into an altercation and the gun started going off."
Nolff was shot multiple times and later died at a hospital. His 20-year-old roommate, who was also shot, was treated at a local hospital and released.
McCoy was released from jail just 24 days before the shooting after serving nine months for assaulting a police officer.
