Ex-Boyfriend Sentenced In Downriver Woman's Slaying

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to 35 to 70 years in prison in the fatal stabbing of his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend in her Downriver apartment.

John Frederickson, of South Lyon, received the punishment Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court. He earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of second degree murder in the July death of Summer Faulkner. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped charges of first degree pre-meditated murder and felony murder.

Police say Frederickson stabbed Faulkner July 19 at her sister's apartment near Telegraph and Goddard, right behind the city's police station. Frederickson fled after the stabbing and Faulkner was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office, Faulkner suffered a four-inch wound to her neck which severed her jugular vein.

Frederickson's friends eventually convinced him to turn himself in to Fenton police, who then turned him over to authorities in Taylor, WHMI-FM reported.

According to police, the couple had broken up months before the stabbing. Police said Frederickson had also been stalking Faulkner.
