The connected vehicle is a critical stepping stone on the path to the consumer's ultimate goal – a connected life, in which the user, phone, vehicle, home and work are all seamlessly connected and integrated. Studies show that by 2017, the global automotive industry will produce more than 350 million connected vehicles per year, while the consumer electronics industry will produce more than 1 billion smartphones annually on several different mobile operating systems. In addition, the users of these vehicles and devices will have access to several million unique apps. As industry and technology complexity grow exponentially, so do the challenges, choices and potential missteps but also great business opportunities for those who mange to make the right choices.
