MI-SBTDC presents 'Five Keys to Achieving Fiscal Fitness': The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center will present financial tools workshops in metro Detroit in 2011. "Five Keys to Achieving Fiscal Fitness," a workshop to help the non-financial manager business owner achieve "fiscal fitness," is a statewide training program designed to strengthen financial literacy and improve the ability to access capital businesses need to grow. The program is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank and events will be held in Waterford, Southgate, Detroit and Livonia. Topics to be discussed include identifying problems using your balance sheet and income statement, providing ways to increase your company's cash flow, using break-even analysis to improve decision-making; planning the working capital to support your growth; and how to keep your banker on your side. "Five Keys to Achieving Fiscal Fitness" will cost $25 per participant with scholarships available for Fifth Third clients. Classes will be held Thursday, March 3 at TechTown in Detroit; Wednesday, March 16 at the Oakland County Business Center in Waterford Township; Tuesday, April 12 at Schoolcraft College in Livonia; Wednesday, April 27 at the Downriver Community Conference in Southgate; Wednesday, June 8 at the Oakland County Business Center in Waterford Township; and Wednesday, June 22 at TechTown in Detroit. Adaptive Materials to host Society of Women Engineers: The Ann Arbor-based Adaptive Materials business unit of the UK's Ultra Electronics will host the Society of Women Engineers for a facility tour and presentation on Feb. 5. The site visit is part of SWE's Midwest region conference. The SWE regional conference attracts 700 women from the Midwest. The conference, held this year at the University of Michigan on Feb. 4-6, will provide attendees with the opportunity to network, receive leadership training, and attend professional development sessions. As part of SWE tour of the AMI manufacturing facility, participants will have a chance to meet with company engineers. The tour will include an up-close look at how the company manufactures fuel cells from raw powders to completed cells, as well as fuel cell applications in the military and commercial markets.
