The school year is less than four weeks away and parents across the region are gearing up to send their children to the schools that they have chosen. New moms with their children nearing school age are investing time and energy into finding the very best education for their child.
Many families don't realize that they can choose educational options for their children that begin before they're even toddlers. There is a program that has been known and trusted for 50 years and one that helps the whole family.
Detroit Parent Network members know that we empower and equip parents to be the best advocates for their families. That's why our partnership with the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy equipped 400 parents to become reading mentors for their children.
These parents attended a workshop called: Love. Read. Learn. where they were given the tools they needed to practice early reading skills with their little ones.
We hear from members all the time about how powerful it is for them to gain skills and confidence. These newfound strengths create ripples throughout their family. If you're a new mother, a family with children between ages 6 weeks and 5 years, and you think you might qualify as low-income, check out DetroitHeadStart.com.
More than 3,000 Detroit families trust Early Head Start and Head Start to provide quality early childhood education to their young learners. There are still spots available for this coming school year at more than 60 centers across the city.
A new resource, DetroitHeadStart.com offers qualifying families a central site to find a center in their neighborhood, hear from Head Start parents and teachers, schedule a visit and/or start the enrollment process. Head Start helps low-income children and families get ahead.
The program offers valuable life-long learning benefits to children under age 5 and provides resources for the whole family – prenatal, health care, job training, employment services and financial stability. Head Start works. Help spread the word. Enroll now.
