Detroit Opera House Offers New View Of Tigers Games

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The newest seats at the Detroit Opera House offer Detroit Tigers fans a view of the on-field action at Comerica Park.

The Coors Light Sky Deck, located on the rooftop of the Opera House, will officially be unveiled at a grand opening ceremony on Friday.

The sky deck is about 450 feet from the center field wall and more than 900 feet from home plate -- showcasing a view from straightaway center field. Still, visitors can follow each pitch. The crack of bats and the roar of the crowd inside Comerica Park can be heard, and there's a view of the city -- as well as a full bar. Hot dogs and hamburgers will also be offered for sale.

"It's a fantastic view," said Jon Coutts, general manager of the Detroit Courtyard Marriott, who was given a rooftop tour during Thursday's afternoon game between the Tigers and the White Sox. "You feel like you're in the mix, but not in the crowd."

The rooftop also is furnished with tables, chairs and couches near a small music stage. A radio broadcast of the game will be run through a PA system.

In addition to providing a great spot to enjoy the post-game fireworks at Comerica Park, the sky deck will also feature live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night.

"It's a chance to experience the opera house in a different way," said Jason Warzecha, operations director for Michigan Opera Theatre. "Maybe we'll even squeeze in a few opera singers to give people a taste of what we do inside."

The Coors Light Sky Deck is open to all ages and families are welcome. The deck opens at 6 p.m. most nights with special events opening earlier on the weekends.
