Detroit Lions Sign Former CMU Tight End Deon Butler
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- The Detroit Lions have signed former Central Michigan University tight end Deon Butler on Saturday to fill a roster spot.
Butler will take the place of Jordan Thompson, who suffered a significant knee injury in Thursday's preseason loss to the Washington Redskins.
Butler went undrafted this year, but spent time with the Lions during rookie minicamp. Butler went to Inkster High School before spending four seasons with the Chippewas.
As a senior, Butler caught 30 passes for 424 yards and one touchdown.
The Lions are already set at tight end with Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria, so Butler will likely bring training camp depth.
