Detroit Diner Makes Bon Appetit's '50 Best New Restaurants'

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a big accolade for a little diner in Detroit.

Bon Appetit magazine has named Rose's Fine Food one of the 50 best new restaurants of 2015.

"Oh my gosh; we're just floored. This has just been such an exciting day. We're like jumping up and down," said co-owner Lucy DeParry

DeParry told WWJ's Sandra McNeill they didn't see the honor coming.

"We had no idea; they're very sneaky, and it was really cool," Co-owner Lucy DeParry told WWJ's Sandra McNeill. "I actually didn't even know it was happening until (restaurant critic) Sylvia Rector from the Free Press called this morning and was like, 'Are you excited?' And I was like, 'Yeah, generally! About what?'"

DeParry  says she doesn't know if she'll make the final Top Ten list, but she hopes it's good for business.

"You know, it's really hard work," she said. "And you just do the work and, you know, you kinda keep you head down, just keep working  and putting out good food and good service and you kinda like forget that sometimes people are watching."

The diner opened last year on E. Jefferson Ave., paying workers $10 an hour, which works out to around $16 when the tips are evenly split. All the baked goods are made from scratch.

A Top Ten will be chosen from the Bon Appetit list on Aug. 18.  See all 50 nominees, HERE.
