Dearborn resident accused in assault could face additional charges after victim dies

A Dearborn, Michigan, resident accused of assaulting a 64-year-old man could face additional or amended charges following the victim's death three days after the incident, according to police.

Officials said the assault happened at a home on the 6500 block of Theisen Street in Dearborn on Wednesday evening. Police who responded to the incident found the man was seriously injured following "an altercation between two family members" inside the residence. Emergency personnel treated him at the scene before taking him to a hospital.

The Dearborn resident, 43, was charged with one count each of assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder following an investigation by police, online court records show. At their arraignment on Thursday, a judge set bond at $500,000 cash or surety.

Police said the man died from his injuries on Saturday.

"In light of the victim's death, Dearborn Police will submit the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for review and consideration of additional or amended charges," the Dearborn Police Department said in a news release on Sunday.

The Dearborn resident was being held at the Wayne County Jail on Sunday.
