Cured Pork ... The Cure For Nose Bleeds?
DETROIT (WWJ) - The cure for a rare nose bleed? According to Doctors at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan, it could be cured pork.
The odd remedy was suggested when a team of doctors were treating a four-year old girl whose blood condition made her nose bleed life-threatening.
They'd tried everything short of methods that could cause long-term side effects-- when one of the more experienced doctors suggested salted pork-- a method he'd heard could stop bleeding back when he was a military doctor.
It worked, but one of the doctors says don't try this at home.
"We are not recommending to people in the public to use pork as a routine treatment for nose bleeds. This was done in a referral center - Children's Hospital with experts in bleeding and she was kept in a highly monitored setting," Dr. Ian Humphreys told WWJ.
Humphreys is an ear, nose, and throat physician.
