Crime Stoppers Pays Out Nearly $30K In Rewards In December
DETROIT (WWJ) - Four murders, six bank robberies, three business robberies, one home invasion and an auto theft were all solved in December, thanks to tips from the public.
Crime Stoppers announced earlier this week that almost $30,000 was awarded to anonymous citizens who gave anonymous information that helped solve the cases.
John Broad, President of Crime Stoppers of Michigan, said he's thankful for all of the citizens who are "taking the initiative and submitting anonymous tips to make their neighborhoods safer."
Broad said they couldn't provide specific information about which crimes were solved on tips in order to help protect those who anonymously came forward with information.
Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information that leads to arrests in all types of crimes. All calls and cash rewards are completely anonymous.
Broad said no one -- not Crime Stoppers, nor the police -- will know the identity of a tipster. In fact, all calls to 1-800-SPEAK-UP are handled by a call center in Canada, where there are no caller ID phones. Tipsters will not have to testify in court -- because no one will ever know who they are, Broad said.
Anyone has information about any other crime that took place in Southeast Michigan, is encouraged to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers in one of three ways:

A cash reward of up to $2,500 is paid for an unsolved homicide. A cash reward of up to $1,000 is paid for all other felony crimes.
