Confirmed: Body Found Buried Near Barn Is Missing Michigan Woman
FRUITLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities have confirmed that a body found buried next to a barn in rural western Michigan is that of a woman missing for 13 months.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports that Tim Maat, chief assistant prosecutor for Muskegon County, said a medical examiner confirmed that it was 32-year-old Bobbie Maples.
Maat said no cause of death was provided and there was no confirmation of how long the body was buried.
The Muskegon-area woman disappeared in December 2014, 11 days after giving birth to a baby girl. She went missing after reportedly going to visit the infant at a hospital.
Police got a tip (from a county jail inmate, according to WOOD-TV) about the body last week and the remains were found in Fruitland Township Friday night— buried and capped with cement.
In a statement, Maat said an active investigation is ongoing.
Roosevelt Park Police previously said a suspect is in custody who is "incarcerated for an unrelated matter."
