Comcast, Goodwill To Recycle E-Waste For Earth Day

Comcast announced Tuesday that, on Thursday, April 21, Goodwill Industries volunteers will work with Comcast employees and their friends and family to collect and dispose of electronic waste in honor of Earth Day April 22, as part of the company's 10th Comcast Cares Day.

This co-sponsored e-cycling event will be held at Comcast's regional headquarters in Plymouth. Area residents are invited to bring their old, unused and unwanted electronics* to be recycled for free.

Eighteen nonprofit organizations in the communities Comcast serves throughout Michigan will benefit from the efforts of approximately 2,500 Comcast volunteers during the week of April 25, which culminates with Comcast Cares Day on April 30. Nationwide, more than 62,000 Comcast volunteers will participate on this annual day of service, which is one of the largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts in the country.

"E-waste accounts for 70 percent of the overall toxic waste currently found in landfills and consumer electronics are the fastest growing segment of municipal solid waste stream in the U.S.," said Mary Beth Halprin, vice president of public relations and community affairs for Comcast. "We are pleased to partner with Goodwill Industries to celebrate Earth Day by properly disposing of this type of waste and preventing the release of hazardous materials into our ecosystem."
