Cold Case: $2,500 Reward Offered For Tips In Murder Of Detroit Teen

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police and Crime Stoppers are looking for tips in the case of 15-year-old Michael Reynolds who was fatally shot four years ago on his front porch in Southwest Detroit.

Reynolds' mother, Tracy Reynolds, is pleading with the public to speak up and she hopes people are listening.

"I'm here today to try to seek justice for my son. He was a young, smart kid," she told WWJ's Laura Bonnell at a news conference Tuesday. "Our family has been destroyed: myself, his dad, his brother, his sister. We have to go on every day living without him."

According to police, Michael Reynolds was sitting with friends outside his home on Toledo street, near Lansing street early in the morning of Saturday, July 7, 2012, when a silver four-door car drove and someone inside it fired shots.

He was rushed to a local hospital but died. An 18-year-old friend was shot in the face but survived.

A $2,500 reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

"Michael had a lot of friends so somebody out there has to know something," the victim's aunt, Cynthia Waderlow said. "I mean, I don't know if they're too afraid to speak up or not, but maybe the money might help somebody speak up a little bit. But I know somebody knows something...Somebody should be able to help him out, help his family out."

Police said at the time that they believed the shootings were gang-related, but family members said  they didn't believe the teen was involved in that.

Anyone who might know anything about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips may also be submitted online at this link, or by texting CSM and the tip to CRIMES (2746370).
