Canton Hosts The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall

CANTON (WWJ) - A scaled version of one of our nations' revered memorials will make its way to Canton this weekend.

Weighing some five tons, spanning over 250 feet in length and standing six feet tall the traveling wall will be on display in Canton through Sunday, June 19.

Its black, reflective surface is inscribed with the names of more than 58,267 servicemen and women who were lost or killed during the Vietnam War.

People are often moved to trace the name of their veteran onto paper, and there will paper and pencils provided so visitors can make rubbings of names etched on the wall.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a traveling 3/5 scaled replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display in Canton, Thursday,  June 16 through Sunday, June 19, in Heritage Park on the practice field adjacent to the ball fields.

The Wall was escorted to its exhibition location by VVA 528 riders, The Patriot Guard of Michigan and the American Legion Riders, who helped set up the exhibit.

The exhibit will open to the public Friday & Saturday, June 17 & 18 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 19 from 9 a.m. until the closing ceremony at 5 p.m.
