Barrels Left Behind By Construction Crew Cause Scare In Downtown Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - The "all clear" was given just before noon on Thursday after three mysterious barrels caused a scare in Downtown Detroit.
A bomb squad and HAZMAT crew were called as a precaution, Detroit police said; and the public was asked to avoid the area near Washington Blvd. and State Street as authorities were investigating.
As it turned out, the 55-gallon barrels contained nothing dangerous and had been left behind by a construction crew by mistake, police said.
Washington Blvd. between Michigan and State Street was briefly shut down during the investigation but has since reopened to traffic.
No charges were expected.
