Bittersweet Victory For Fennville Basketball Team
FENNVILLE (WWJ) - "...And since that time our community has been on a journey of shock, grief and sorrow. But, this gathering tonight we hope is one more step in the healing process. Tonight we seek to honor Wes's memory by participating in a game he loved," began the announcement before the start of the Fennville High School basketball game.
Fennville's leading scorer Wes Leonard died last Thursday after hitting a game winning shot that capped a perfect season. The two teams honored Wes prior to this evenings game.
Fenneville High School beat Lawrence High 65-54 to advance in the state's playoffs without their star player.
Classes at Fennville will be canceled tomorrow so students can attend Wes Leonard's funeral.
