Jolly Pumpkin's Ann Arbor location has been open for a few years now, and its Detroit location opened last April. The Detroit location is a little different from Ann Arbor's, as you order at the counter and then choose a table, rather than sit-down service, too. The restaurant is most known for its pizzas and beers, but it also has a warm artichoke sandwich, for those that would prefer veggies, which includes marinated artichoke hearts, pepperoncini, roasted red peppers, chickpea spread, and white lotus farm goat feta cheese, on olive bread ($12).

If you want a smorgasbord of veggie sandwich options, then head to the Russell St. Deli, located adjacent to Eastern Market. The grilled vegetable sandwich ($8.95) includes roasted red pepper, portabella mushroom, caramelized onions, zucchini, chevre, and sun-dried tomato pesto on grilled rye. Another good option would be the avocado melt (avocado, provolone, tomato, red onion, and garlic mayo on grilled pumpernickel bread). If neither of those strike your fancy, there's also The TLT, which is vegan-friendly and includes Michigan Panda tofu, lettuce, tomato, and house-made vegan mayo, on toasted whole wheat bread.

You might be surprised to learn that a brewery serves veggie sandwiches, but Batch Brewing indeed does, and it's a tasty option too. Its Market Veggie Sandwich ($8) includes arugula, shaved parmesan cheese, cucumber, roasted red peppers, Labrosse Farm tomato jam, and vinaigrette. All food and beer is ordered at the register, and the restaurant's chef, Chef Matt, is originally from Detroit; he spent 16 years in Jonesboro, Arkansas, but moved back to the city to help "a group of degenerate beer dorks" open "a brewery with a respectable kitchen," according to Batch's website.

Chive Kitchen only serves vegetarian- and vegan-friendly dishes, so it makes sense that the restaurant has a lot of veggie sandwiches to choose from. The restaurant's menu does change regularly, but a sampling of its dishes can be found on its website. Chive Kitchen's lunch menu has more sandwiches to choose from than its dinner; try the reuben (corned beef Seitan, vegan cheese, grilled red peppers, house-made dill relish sauce) or the Michigan Dog (vegan smart dog, house lentil chili, diced onions, mustard cumin aioli). Other sandwiches to try are the Italian sub (vegan house sausage, house tomato sauce, grilled onions and red peppers, basil pesto, on a soft hoagie roll) or the burger (Cannelli-Seitan herbed patty, dill relish sauce, vegan cheese, McClure's pickles, daily greens, caramelized onions), which is served with house fries. Chive Kitchen is located in downtown Farmington.

Dish is a carryout-only business, but has a lot of veggie sandwich choices. The restaurant opened in 1998 to rave reviews, and has been churning out delicious to-go dishes since then. Sandwiches are served cold with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, as well as a small side salad, and you can choose from wheat, farm, multigrain bread, or lavash. Try the vegetarian Mexican ($9.50) which includes roasted red pepper, cucumber, red onion, jack cheese, avocado, and chipotle mayonnaise; another option would be the Mediterranean veggies sandwich ($9.50) which has hummus, feta cheese, pine nuts, cucumber, beets, and a pepperoncini-olive blend.
