Best Pulled Pork In Detroit

A good pulled pork sandwich is not hard to find in Detroit, but where are the best places to go? From downtown Detroit to the 'burbs, check out this list to find the best pulled pork in the area.

You might not think that the 'burbs of Detroit have one of the best pulled pork sandwiches around, but think again. Uptown Grille, hidden in Commerce Township between Haggerty Road and M5, may not be known for its sandwiches, but the pulled pork is delicious. It comes smothered in BBQ sauce with your choice of sides, including fries or sweet potato fries (go for the sweet potato). Uptown also has great daily specials, including half-off chicken wings and margaritas on Monday, as well as buy one get one half-off pizzas and half off martinis on Fridays until 7 p.m..

Zingerman's Roadhouse is the "country cousin" of its downtown Zingerman's location, which means more BBQ and Southern-style meals. The BBQ pork entree is available for both lunch and dinner, and is pit roasted for 14 hours and blended with your choice of barbecue sauce.  It's also served with mashed potatoes and Southern-style braised greens. BBQ sauce choices include Eastern North Carolina vinegar BBQ sauce, South Carolina mustard BBQ sauce and Memphis tomato BBQ sauce. The Roadhouse also offers pulled pork sandwiches, including sliders, BBQ pulled sandwich and chopped pork BBQ sandwich. On Thursdays, ask for the Blue Plate Special, which includes pulled pork, beef, chicken wings, greens and mashed potatoes, all for just $13.95 (the pulled pork dinner is normally $19.95).

Rub BBQ and Pub is located in downtown Detroit and just recently opened a location in Ann Arbor near the University of Michigan's campus. For Eastsiders, there is also a Warren location. Rub has a sports bar atmosphere and has a huge BBQ menu, including a dizzying array of pulled pork sandwiches, ranging from "The Bob Seger" (pulled pork in their Memphis sauce) to "The Yzerman" (Tennessee pulled pork in their mac-n-cheese sauce).

Little Z's BBQ

Little Z's BBQ is the youngest restaurant on this list, as it was established in 2012. The restaurant offers a pulled pork sandwich, as well as the Carolina pulled pork dinner, which comes with buttered cornbread, your choice of sauce, and two sides. Try the Double-Q, Triple-Q, or Quad-Q if you're feeling especially hungry (two, three, or four smoked meats), or the Z's BBQ Sampler, which serves two to three people. You can also order the Carolina pork by the half-pound or by the pound. Little Z's is located in St. Clair Shores, close to I-94, and offers delivery within the local area.

Sweetwater Tavern is located in downtown Detroit, close to the Ren Cen, Ford Field, and Comerica Park. They provide shuttle buses to Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings games, as well as concert events downtown. Sweetwater's owner, Jeffrey Cain, received his "secret" recipe for chicken wings from his grandmother, and his restaurant is known for its wings. However, Cain also offers a great pulled pork sandwich on his menu called "The Big Pig," which mixes the pulled pork with Sweetwater's special sauce, served on a Kaiser roll. It's served with a slice of onion and coleslaw and offers a sweet, barbecue taste.
