Playgrounds are filled with wonder and adventure for all ages. Some like to soar like birds on the swings, while others transform into little monkeys, swinging from vine to vine on the steel bars. No matter what your kid is into, the playgrounds listed below have it all- and then some, making them the best places for a playdate in the Detroit area.

The playground at the Detroit Zoo is where it's at. First of all, attendees must be members of the zoo or pay admission to access the playground. The equipment is located within an enclosed area, under a canopy of shady trees. The uniquely-designed features offer plenty of engaging ways for children of all age ranges to play. There's the standard things to climb, swing and fall from, but there's also equipment that is innovative, and encourages exploration. The good times will roll so freely that kids will want to stay for days; and you know its magic when even you don't want to leave. Ever.

The playground at Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village is nestled within the confines of the museum grounds, framed by a rustic gate so little pioneers can't escape. The playground is accessed only by members or guests who pay an admission fee. The playground itself is constantly buzzing with innovation and activity. The entire space was designed with kids in mind, including those with special needs, and features all the right ingredients to create the perfect day. There's spinning and sliding and teetering and tottering. There's room for exploration and imaginations to soar. Children of all age ranges challenge not only their bodies but also their minds as they discover new ways to approach the endless variety of unique structures.

Belle Isle Park is an island surrounded by the Detroit River with views of both the Detroit skyline and our friendly neighbor, Canada. Here you'll find play structures scattered throughout the park. Some are large with tons of kids hanging, climbing and bouncing from every nook and cranny, while other play areas are more compact and perfectly suited for toddlers. This playground can't be beat due to the picturesque setting surrounding the play areas. Trees tower above the playgrounds so even when the sun is smiling fiercely, you'll still be in good shape. There's plenty of equipment to keep them occupied and when the kids get tired of that, there's an entire park waiting for them to explore!

The city of Westland recently installed a new playground - to say it's awesome is an understatement. This space-themed playground rocks! Kids will scamper up and down and in and out of this expansive structure. It is by far the coolest play area on the planet with flying saucer-inspired equipment and rocketship-shapes that look like they're ready to launch. The only downfall is that when parents are ready to blast-off, it might be hard to get the the kids to come in for a landing.
