Offering five sessions featuring painting, wood sculpture, printmaking and clay use, kids will gain the knowledge of working with a variety of art media at the DIA. An added bonus to this program is that summer participants will get to explore in a museum environment allowing them to peruse the galleries occasionally during the learning process. On the last day of camp, they will host an art show for their family and friends. Interested parents should reserve a space with haste since class is limited to 20 individuals.

Beading, wiring, glass and stone usage and other jewelry-making tasks will likely be on the table of activities. This program may just be the best option available for ceramic education geared toward youth. Workshops and classes are centered around making pottery and may even involve wheel throwing. Participants can get their hands dirty while creating something practical for the home. Art in the Park

In a celebration of art, food and fun, Art in the Park is Michigan's second largest art fair and is likely the more enjoyable option for children this summer. Of course, the general slew of arts and crafts are available with the added bonus of being outdoors. Musical artists and songs geared toward kids will also be a part of the experience for attendees. What could be better than getting artsy while enjoying the sunshine? The event takes place July 12-14.

Young artists can enhance their motor skills through sketching, painting and jewelry making at the Fine Art For Kids this summer. According to the website, "students will have a brief snack break in the middle of each class, and at the end of each week, they will play games and win prizes." Completed artwork will include collages, sketches and mixed media pieces as well as necklaces and earrings using silver, copper, crystal and glass. This program will likely be a good opportunity to make some jewelry to add to the collection at home.
