Best Ceviche In Detroit

Ceviche's origins are from Latin American countries, where it was discovered that the citric acid from the lemons and limes in the recipe are able to cook the fish/shellfish very well. Ceviche is also becoming more popular in the U.S. Check out this list to see where you can find the best ceviche in this area.
216 E. Washington St.
Ann Arbor, MI 48104
(734) 369-3153

Aventura is new-ish to the Ann Arbor restaurant scene, opening a few years ago near the corner of Washington and 5th. It's more of a tapas (small plates) restaurant representing Latin American foods and also Spanish foods, but it does have a ceviche dish if you're in the mood for it. Its Ceviche de Platija ($12) includes flounder, roasted corn, cherry tomato, cilantro, lime, homemade semolina crackers, "milk of the tiger," and yellow pepper. If you try out Aventura during its happy hour — bar-only, Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. as well as late night, from midnight to 1 a.m. — you can try the ceviche for $7 instead.

Huerto Restaurant And Tequila Bar
6199 Orchard Lake Road
West Bloomfield, MI 48322
(248) 865-2900

Huerto Restaurant and Tequila Bar, also a newer restaurant, has a ceviche dish included in the appetizer section on its menu. Huerto opened in October 2013, and the word "huerto" is derived from the Spanish word for "orchard." The restaurant also has a covered and heated patio, which seats 80 (weather permitting), and its main dining/bar area seats about 145 people. Its ceviche ($8.99) includes shrimp and scallops with lime juice, "tossed with diced onions, cucumbers, tomato, cilantro and a touch of hot sauce, then topped with avocados."

Brownie's On The Lake
24214 Jefferson Ave.
St. Clair Shores, MI 48080
(586) 445-8080

Brownie's on the Lake is (unsurprisingly) located directly on Lake St. Clair, and boasts the best happy hour in St. Clair, according to its website. Its ceviche is a little different than your typical take on it, as it's served in a jar and is spicy. The "spiced cheviche jar" ($12.99) includes fresh fish, scallops, oysters, avocado, lime juice, cilantro, jalapeno, tomato and tortilla chips, and is located on the "raw bar" portion of Brownie's menu. The restaurant also offers an outdoor deck/seating area for the warmer months.

Detroit, MI 48209
(313) 843-1433

La Terraza is located in Mexicantown, but on the West Vernor side — most of the restaurants are on the East Vernor side, so don't pass La Terraza by. Restaurant-goers rave about the restaurant's ceviche, and between that and one of its signature margaritas, you have yourself a nice appetizer-sized meal. La Terraza offers two ceviche choices: the Ceviche Botana ($5.95), which includes fresh seafood in lemon and lime juice, or the Ceviche Crackers ($2.95), which is a ceviche dip of sorts, served with saltines.

Los Dos Amigos
7115 Parkwood St.
Detroit, MI 48210

Keep a lookout for the Los Dos Amigos taco truck — its home base is Detroit, at Parkwood and Parkinson Streets. You can also place a call-in order and pick it up when you arrive, if you're limited on time. The truck has Tostadas de Ceviche for only $1, as well as tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas and more. The truck is usually available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well.
