The DIA is one of the premiere places to see art exhibits in Detroit, and they have many new exhibits this year, as well as a few that are ongoing. "The Open Road: Photography and the American Road Trip" exhibit, also a book, features nineteen photographers, including the work of Robert Frank, famous for a road trip he took in 1955. "The Open Road" is organized by Aperture Foundation, New York, David Campany and Denise Wolff, Curators, and is partially supported by a National Endowments for the Arts award.

The name Cranbrook is synonymous with excellence, and its art museum is no exception. This month, its graduate students will exhibit their work, and the showcase includes pieces that "are the culmination of two years of studio work," from a group of more than 80 soon-to-be graduates. On June 18, "Hippie Modernism: The Struggle for Utopia" premieres, and that goes until Oct. 9; if you're an ArtMember of Cranbrook, you can get a sneak peek at this exhibit on June 17th. John Glick: A Legacy in Clay will be running concurrently, starting on June 18, and going until March 12, 2017.

MOCAD, or the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, has many interesting spring exhibits that are upcoming, some of which that have already started. "Detroit Affinities: Steve Shaw" ends on April 24, so make sure to hurry in to see it; Shaw is a local Detroit photographer, born and raised here, and a "social documentarian" who got his first camera in 1969. Chloë Brown's video exhibit, Dancing in the Boardroom, is also at MOCAD through the 24th, and this is her United States premiere, as Brown is from England.

The University of Michigan Museum of Art, otherwise known as UMMA, is located in downtown Ann Arbor, on the University of Michigan's campus. Siebren Versteeg's "LIKE II" is currently showing, through July 24, in the Media Gallery, and its a unique computer painting program; according to UMMA's website, it "creates a composition using a continuously changing algorithm, and then runs a periodic Google search to find a matching image online. Every sixty seconds, the painting made by the computer is uploaded to Google's "search by image" feature, and images that most closely match the composition are then downloaded and displayed." From June 11 - Sept. 11, L.A. artist Catherine Opie will showcase her work, in the exhibition "Catherine Opie: 700 Nimes Road," in which photographs from the Bel Air, California residence of Elizabeth Taylor will be shown.

The BBAC offers art classes, as well as exhibitions, and is located in Birmingham at the corner of 14 Mile and S. Cranbrook Road. It has three exhibitions running until April 29, including the work of Vera Scekic, the Regional High School Art Competition, and the work of the students of Meighen Jackson. From May 10 to June 10, the Dark Side Group's work will be featured, as well as the work of Karen Gubitz, Mark Benglian, and the students of Kim Fay.
