Barrett Kelpin Goes 23 Under, Wins Michigan Open
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Barrett Kelpin of Kalamazoo has won the Michigan Open Championship golf tournament, shooting a four-under 68 on the final round for an eight stroke lead on the nearest competitor.
The 22-year-old finished Thursday with a four-round total of 23-under 265. The tournament was held at The Orchards Golf Club in Macomb County's Washington Township, south of Romeo.
Kelpin gets an $8,000 winner's check.
Jeff Cuzzort of Grosse Ile is second at a 15-under 273. Three players tied for third at 14-under 274 — Willie Mack III of Flint, Andrew Ruthkoski of Muskegon and Brian Hayward of Grand Rapids.
Hayward is the top amateur in the event.
