Great Lakes Health Information Exchange First in Michigan to Achieve EHNAC Health Information Exchange Accreditation: The East Lansing-based Great Lakes Health Information Exchange, is the first HIE in Michigan and the fourth in the country, achieving full accreditation with the Health Information Exchange Accreditation Program under the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission. The accreditation recognizes excellence in health data processing and transactions, and ensures compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations. Through the consultative review process, EHNAC evaluated Great Lakes Health Information Exchange in areas of privacy and security, technical performance, business practices and organizational resources as it relates to health information exchange policies and procedures. In addition, EHNAC reviewed the organization's process of managing and transferring protected health information and determined that the organization meets or exceeds all EHNAC criteria and industry standards. This secure exchange of information through GLHIE supports coordination of care with primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals, nursing homes and urgent care centers in real-time. Beaumont Health System Earns 'Top Performer' Recognition: All three Beaumont hospitals have been recognized as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures for 2013 by The Joint Commission, the major accreditor of health care organizations. The Beaumont hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe are identified with other Top Performer hospitals in The Joint Commission's "Improving America's Hospitals" annual report published on Oct. 30. In the report, The Joint Commission recognizes hospitals for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes shown to improve care for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. As a Top Performer, Beaumont is among the top 33 percent of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting accountability measure performance data for 2012. Beaumont and each of the hospitals that were named as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures must achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above, across all reported accountability measures; achieve performance of 95 percent or above on every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 denominator cases; and have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and within that measure set all applicable individual accountability measures have a performance rate of 95 percent or above. Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe has been recognized as a Top Performer for three consecutive years. Beaumont Health System is a three-hospital regional health system with 1,726 licensed beds, more than 14,000 full-time equivalent employees and nearly 3,100 physicians, including 500 employed physicians in the Beaumont Medical Group and more than 2,600 private-practice physicians. In addition to its hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe, Beaumont has 54 community-based sites of care including medical centers in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties, family practice and internal medicine practices, five nursing centers, home care services and hospice. The Beaumont Research Institute has 1,100 active research studies with more than 82,000 participants.
