AT&T And Verizon Tie For Performance At Detroit Metro Airport

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Two of Metro Detroit's top wireless carriers tied for top data network performance at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

Seattle-based independent mobile analytics firm RootMetrics announced that in the first half of 2015 AT&T and Verizon tied for top data network performance at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

"Our customers rely on staying connected while they travel," said Brian Ducharme, AT&T's vice president/general manager for Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, in a release. "They want to get in touch with colleagues, family, and friends before they leave or as soon as they walk off the plane. With AT&T, customers can read email, send photos, check the news, and much more while traveling."

RootMetrics tested data performance across all networks in publicly accessible areas within Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County, including common areas such as check-in, baggage claim, and terminals.

The top rankings for the wireless companies comes after both AT&T and Verizon have made enhancements to their networks.

AT&T has deployed network enhancements including 4G LTE coverage and a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County.

Additionally, Verizon has invested $100 million network investment in Detroit to further enhance service in high-traffic parts of the city.

"More than 30 million travelers pass through DTW each year. Those 30 million people are counting on a strong, reliable and fast wireless network to keep them connected to their families, friends and workplaces, even while they are on the go," said Verizon Region President Lauren Love-Wright. "We are committed to bolstering our offerings to ensure our customers always experience the strongest, most reliable wireless service, whether at their destinations, or at the airport trying to get there."

Verizon also achieved the fastest median upload speed at 6.8 Mbps, according to RootMetrics.
