Army Calls 645th Regional Group To Active Duty

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The U.S. Army has called the 645th Regional Support Group based in Southfield to active duty.  The soldiers are being deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sergeant First Class Jesse Sutton is heading into his 21st year with the Military.  He spent 15 months overseas.

Sutton knows, firsthand, what the soldiers may be going through.  With more than two decades of military experience, he has some advice for the soldiers heading to Afghanistan.

"Deployment for a soldier is a very anxious time and there are things that are still going on in the world, that we are engaged in... and soldiers just love the support we get from the people we come in contact with," says Sutton.

Sutton says something as simple as saying "thank you for your service" is enough.

Sutton says every unit has a family support group which provides information to family members while soldiers are deployed.
