Animal Control Officer Shot In Detroit

An animal control officer is in the hospital after he was shot while dealing with a pit bull on the Detroit's east side Thursday afternoon.

Police say the incident happened outside a home on Fairport Street near Seven Mile.

Detroit Police public information officers say a police officer shot at a pit bull that had charged at him, and officials believe the bullet ricocheted and hit the animal control officer in the leg.

An investigation is underway.

The officer is expected to be okay.
