1 Sled Dog Killed, 2 Hurt In UP Crash
MUNISING, Mich. (AP) - A sled dog is dead and two are injured after a pickup truck struck a dog team competing in the U.P. 200 race in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
State police say the pickup driver had slowed down and had the right-of-way but was unable to avoid the dogs on M-28 near the Cherrywood Lodge in Alger County. The incident occurred Sunday, shortly before 6 a.m.
The pickup driver was a 65-year-old man from Canada.
The 240-mile sled dog race started Friday in Marquette and ends Sunday, also in Marquette.
