Weekend 4Cast Perfect For Taurid Meteor Shower, Best Since 2005

DENVER (CBS4) - It'll be a great weekend to stay up late and hope for a glimpse of the Taurid meteor shower in the sky over Colorado.

It's projected to be seen nightly now through November 10.

Astronomers are saying this is the best showing of the Taurid fireballs since 2005.

Why are they called fireballs?

The Taurid meteoroid stream is debris from Comet 2P/Encke. That stream is made up of larger pieces of debris compared to comets that produce other meteor showers. That's why we see larger flashes of light here on Earth and how they are known as fireballs.

For the best viewing get away from city lights to a place with a nice open view of the dark sky.

The Taurid meteor shower can be seen anytime after dark but is best seen during the middle of the night when Taurus is directly overhead.
