As rocking clubs go in Denver, Herman's Hideaway is an institution and a fabulous place to soak in local bands and tasty suds. Located a little further down Broadway than many of the other bars that line this street, Herman's has been "rockin' Denver" for more than 25 years. Perhaps one of the most laid back venues to hang out in, Herman's Hideaway has a mix of music that ranges from punk to grunge to blues, rock and alternative. Despite the differences in musical variety, the crowd always seems to blend together nicely. Herman's houses a decent sized bar, good seating and a vibe that's perfect for the local music scene. Come check out local and up and coming bands every Wednesday night for the new talent showcase, or come any weekend night to enjoy tunes among a plethora of other music lovers.
Tooey's Off Colfax
1521 Marion St.
Denver, CO 80218
(303) 586-5075
www.facebook.com/pages/Tooeys-off-Colfax
Between the plethora of dive bars and abundance of live music venues, there's no other street in Denver (or Colorado, for that matter), for hipsters quite like Colfax, and Tooey's location in the heart of it all serves as a hipster haven. Tucked behind Kinga's and located across the street from the Irish Snug, Tooey's is part dive-bar, part neighborhood bar and part old school paradise, but the vibe is always fun and the patrons and staff alike are always friendly. The most frequently consumed drink here comes in the form of tallboy PBRs, and the activity of choice ranges from dancing to old school hip hop to playing retro video and arcade games to conversing on the patio with friends. Bring cash if you don't expect to drink much, as there's a $10 minimum for credit cards and the drinks are cheap.

Bender's is a proper music tavern with a rockin' vibe. Check out the Reverend Jim DJs (Jim Norris) on $2 Tuesdays. While you get loaded up on rock, punk, R&B and good old rock'n'roll, get loaded on $2 domestic bottles, wine, drafts and more. The food is plentiful and cheap, while being fairly tasty. This is not a club to chill at--in fact, it's not a lounge by any stretch of the imagination. What Bender's Tavern does represent, however, is a place to have a rockin' good time. Showcase your talents on open mic night every Monday, or opt for a less formal way to belt the lyrics to your favorite songs on Karaoke Thursdays.

If you're looking for adventures in chill and flower-power, check out Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom. Located in what used be the old 1930s Casino Cabaret, Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom is more of a music venue than a traditional bar. The venue wafts heavy with various fumes, loud jams and a cheap bar. If you're not into a grungy, smoky bar-scene, Cervantes is probably not for you, but if you like to have a good time with live music and fellow hipsters, Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom is the place to be in Denver. As an added bonus, the venue often hosts free shows on Tuesdays.
Bushwacker's
1967 S. Broadway
Denver, CO
(303) 722-0280
facebook.com/pages/Bushwackers-Saloon
Bushwacker's is a fun, locally appreciated establishment with a bent towards improv rockers who are encouraged to jam every Sunday night. The bands are often local, blasting metal, alternative, blues/R&B/soul and rock in Bushwacker's small confines. This is definitely hipster paradise with an interesting way to recover after rocking out to great music. The bar serves a "recovery breakfast" every Sunday from 9 a.m. to Noon that consists of bloody Marys, screwdrivers and a home cooked morning meal (or brunch--depending on the time of day you drag yourself out of bed). The booze is affordable, but there are no advertised specials. By the way: "Cha-Chi's Kool-Aid" comes highly recommended.
