Snow Possible Thursday AM, Denver Now 17 Days From Latest 'First Snow' Tie

DENVER (CBS4) - We're busy in Colorado's Weather Center tracking the potential for the first measurable flakes of the season to fly in the Denver area Thursday morning.

It's all part of a large Pacific storm system that will cross the state over the next 48 hours.

While the mountains are expecting locally heavy snow, we aren't anticipating anything heavy in Denver.

Scattered showers late Wednesday could mix with or change over to wet snow by the Thursday morning drive to work and school.

Any accumulations would remain confined to grassy areas due to how warm we've been in recent days.

Denver is still waiting on the first official snow of the season. For that to happen we'd need at least 0.1 inches to accumulate at Denver International Airport.

The average date of 'first snow' in Denver is October 19. The latest first snow on record fell on November 21, 1934.
