Denver Leaders Vote Down Contract That Would Not Give Police Officer Raises, Holiday Pay In 2021
DENVER (CBS4) -- Denver City Council members voted against a proposed contract that would not have given Denver police officers any raises nor any paid holidays in 2021. The Denver City Council voted down the proposed two-year contract with the Denver police union by a vote of 8-5 on Monday night.
Under the proposal, there would be no salary increase in 2021 and holiday pay would be suspended. That would have saved the city $4.9 million next year. In exchange for the cuts, officers would have received a 100-hour time bank, to be used in the future like vacation leave, and a 2.77% salary increase, in 2022.
The contract now goes back to negotiations and if an agreement can't be reached it will go to arbitration.
