More Sunshine and Warmer Temps Wednesday, Cooler Thursday

By Ed Greene

DENVER (CBS4) - A much-needed moisture packed system blasted Colorado with rain and snow.

The combination of a cold front from the northwest and a low pressure storm system spinning over southern parts of the state teamed up for a healthy dose of rain and wet snow to get Tuesday rolling.

The storm system delivered anywhere from a tenth of an inch of rain to over a half-inch for some areas Tuesday morning. Snowfall amounts ranged from 3 to 6 inches in the northern mountains to at least a foot in some of the San Juan's. Purgatory and Telluride both reported great snow totals for skiers, with over 11 inches for both resorts.

This system is a quick mover and is already located in the upper Midwest. The high in Denver on Tuesday reached 42 officially at the airport and 46 degrees downtown. For Wednesday we can expect plenty of sunshine and a quick warm-up with a high in Denver getting into the lower 50s.

Wednesday night into early Thanksgiving morning could see a quick shot of snow for many mountain locations. Then skies become mostly sunny but we'll be a little cooler. The high in Denver should only reach into the mid to upper 40s. Warmer again on Friday with a high in the mid 50s under sunny skies; warmer still on Saturday as we approach the 60 degree mark.

Sunday begins our next change: cooler, more clouds and maybe a few late isolated showers - a high back in the mid 40s. Then partly cloudy and colder weather on Monday with a high in the upper 30s; colder still on Tuesday as we add isolated rain or snow showers with a high possibly staying just below the freezing mark - near 30 degrees.
