Increasing Clouds With Scattered T-Storms Sunday

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - After an amazing Saturday statewide with little to no cloud cover, light wind and comfortable temperatures ... we'll see a little bit of change to end the weekend.

But it's a good change because we are in desperate need of some precipitation.

An area of low pressure will move into the central Rockies Sunday and it will bring cloud cover and a chance for showers and thunderstorms.

There's about a 30% chance that any one point in the state will see some precipitation. Chances are actually a bit higher over the mountains along and south of Interstate 70.

Looking ahead we expect the heat to crank up with a stretch of 90s in store for the lower elevations, including metro Denver.

The combination of clear skies, light wind and warm temperatures allows ground level pollution to cook in the sunlight and create ozone gas and levels along the Front Range are elevated.

There's an ozone alert in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday as a result.
